Game Day Must Haves
Over the last few years, I’ve prepared for a lot of tournament weekends. If you’ve spent any time at the ballfield with your kids, then you know what I’m talking about. There is no such thing as resting when it’s game day. From early morning games to late afternoon doubleheaders, having the right gear can make all the difference between a stressful day in the sun and a relaxed, enjoyable one.
After years of trial and error (and way too many sunburns), I’ve narrowed it down to my Top 6 Weekend Ballfield Essentials. I never leave home without them. Whether you’re a seasoned sports parent or heading out for your first tournament weekend, these items are game changers.
1. Yeti Roadie 24 Hard Cooler
Yes, it’s an investment, but the Yeti Roadie 24 earns its keep. This beast keeps drinks ice-cold all day long (even in the brutal summer heat), fits nicely behind the passenger seat, and is tall enough for wine bottles if you're ever off-duty. The best part? It’s lightweight for a Yeti and has a slim profile that’s easy to carry from the car to the field.
2. Ice Packs
Cold drinks and snacks are non-negotiable when you’re outside all day. These reusable ice packs stay cold for hours, don’t leak, and fit perfectly into coolers. I use them to keep water, fruit, and sandwiches chilled without the soggy mess of melted ice.
3. GCI Outdoor Legz Up Lounger Chair
Bleacher seats? No thanks. The GCI Outdoor Legz Up Lounger is hands-down my favorite chair. It’s incredibly comfortable, reclines, and even has a built-in leg rest so you can stretch out between games. Sean and the boys got this for me for Mother’s Day last year, and it has been my favorite camping chair. Bonus: it folds easily and has backpack-style carrying straps.
4. Banana Boat Sport Ultra SPF 50 Spray Sunscreen
Sun protection is a must, and Banana Boat Sport Ultra SPF 50 is my go-to. It’s sweat-resistant and lasts through the heat of the day. I prefer using a spray so it keeps my hands from being greasy.
5. Owala Water Bottle
The Owala water bottle is a must-have. It keeps your drinks ice cold for hours and doesn’t leak, is easy to clean, and fits in most cup holders. Also, you can close the lid so dust doesn’t make its way into your water if a player slides into a base.
6. Goodr Sunglasses
Goodr sunglasses are my MVP for sun protection. They don’t slide off when you sweat, they’re budget-friendly (so you won’t cry if they break), and they come in fun colors. These are also my go-to sunglasses for running.
If you’re heading into a full weekend of games, this basic setup will help you stay cool and comfortable. Plus, it’s easy to make adjustments by adding things you need for your crew. Just don’t forget the snacks, hand sanitizer, first-aid kit, and napkins. 😉
